Frozen treat craze comes to Keizer

Ashley Neadow, Jay He and Carissa Lin all work at Green Apple Frozen Yogurt – but they’ve been known to enjoy the product a time or two as well. The new store focuses on self-serve frozen yogurt, with an ample toppings bar. Price is by the ounce. (KEIZERTIMES/Jason Cox)

Keizer’s got a new place to find a tasty treat.

It is owned by Raymond and Amy Lin. The store’s manager, Rich Giddens, is excited about the new venture. He and Raymond operate several businesses in Keizer, including All Star Sports Grill, Good Times and Mario’s.

Giddens said it’s slightly different than other varieties of frozen yogurt – more of a subtle sweetness. All eight varieties currently available – Red Velvet cake, French vanilla, Reese’s Peanut Butter, Very Berry Sherbet, Original Tart, Very Strawberry, chocolate and cookies and cream – are of the kosher and low-fat variety. They also have smoothies and milkshakes available.

Frozen yogurt is self serve, with customers paying by the ounce. In addition to the yogurt there’s 18 varieties of toppings, including healthier fare like raspberries, strawberries and blueberries, along with the more indulgent varieties like chocolate chips, coconut flakes and several varieties of candy and cookie crumbles.

The atmosphere is clean and airy, with modern furniture providing plenty of seating. The location has wireless internet.

“We wanted a bright, clean feeling,” Giddens said. “And I think the furniture is really cool.”

In keeping with the “green” in their title, Giddens said the store uses recyclable cups and environmentally sound cleaning products.

“We’re really excited about it,” Giddens said. “It’s so refreshing.”

They decided to stay open late to “provide a healthy alternative to your typical late night snack,” their promotional material reads.

Lin plans to open four more locations, Giddens said.

The pair said the yogurt has only 50 to 100 calories for each half-cup.
