Theft ring puts three in jail

Three people were arrested Wednesday as police believe they were part of a theft ring hitting local stores.
According to Keizer Police, a shoplifting report at Radio Shack in the 5400 block of River Road came in at about 1:31 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 13, stating a woman had come in and stolen a DVD player, fleeing the store on foot and getting into a waiting car.
The caller described the woman, the vehicle and its driver, and officers attempted to perform a traffic stop when they found it a few minutes later in the area. The driver didn’t immediately yield, according to Sgt. Jeff Goodman, but eventually stopped in the parking lot of Countryside Christian Church at 5775 McLeod Lane NE.
One suspect, police said, jumped from the vehicle, but was detained after a short chase. They said the man who ran initially gave a false name and date of birth, but officers subsequently found the man had an outstanding warrant.
The female suspect wasn’t in the car, but was found walking in the Lockhaven Drive and River Road area and arrested. The DVD player was found.
Officers searched the suspect vehicle, Goodman said, and found “multiple items … believed to be stolen from other stores” in the area, including north Salem Fred Meyers, Keizer’s Walgreens, the Radio Shack in south Salem and the OSU Beaver Fan Shop.
Police also found small amounts of methamphetamine in both the suspect vehicle and the female suspect’s purse, Goodman said.
Officers think the three were working together to steal from local businesses.
Arrested were:
• Eddie Art Quintero, 19, Salem: Second-degree conspiracy to commit theft, driving without a license, failure to yield to an emergency vehicle, failure to carry proof of liability insurance.
• Kimberly D. Brown, 20, Lebanon: possession of methamphetamine, third-degree theft, second-degree conspiracy to commit theft.
• Enrique R. Mata, 24, Keizer: parole violation warrant, second-degree theft, second-degree conspiracy to commit theft, interfering with a police officer, giving false information to a police officer, identity theft and possession of methamphetamine.
