Pitchers, including Salem-Keizer’s Jose Reyes and Eury Sanchez, kept the 2014 Northwest League All-Star Game in goose eggs through 10 innings Tuesday at Eugene’s PK Park.

The rule was that the game, in which stars from the league’s South Division were hosts to stars from the North Division, was not to go more than 10 innings, so the score was a 0-0 tie.

Also representing the Volcanoes were shortstop Christian Arroyo and second baseman T Relaford. Pitcher EJ Encinosa was on the roster but did not play.

Neither Arroyo nor Relaford had a hit, but the first hard-hit ball of the game came off Arroyo’s bat in the bottom of the first inning. It was a line drive to deep center field, caught by Vancouver’s Roemon Fields.

Both Volcano infielders played well defensively. In the third inning, Relaford raced in to grab a grounder hit by Everett’s Austin Cousino and threw him out on a close play at first base.

No one pitched more than two innings, and most pitchers were on the mound for only one. Hillsboro’s Nicholas Baker was the starter for the South and had two innings. Reyes pitched the third, setting down the North’s Marcus Greene (Spokane), Cousino and Eduard Pinto (Spokane) on grounders.

Sanchez pitched the top of the fifth, retiring the North in order. Ryan McBroom (Vancouver) grounded out, Jose Trevino (Spokane) hit a fly to left and Greene struck out.

Jairo Labourt (Vancouver) was the North’s starter.
