McNary’s swim team dove back into the pool for two meets in three days.

The Celtic boys edged West Salem 87-83 on Tuesday, Jan. 2 at the Kroc Center.

Sophomore Kyle Hooper won the 100-yard freestyle in 54.38 seconds and junior Harrison Vaughn took first in the 100 breaststroke in 1:12 to lead McNary to victory.

Vaughn, Grant Biondi, Brock Wyer and Wyatt Sherwood also won the 200 free relay in 1:42.64.

Freshman Bella Beard touched the wall first in the 100 breaststroke in 1:15.63, the 200 free in 2:10.38 and swam on the winning 200 free relay with twin sister Alex, sophomore Alyssa Garvey and senior Haley Debban in 1:51.32. But that was not enough for the Lady Celts to defeat West Salem, who came out on top 95-74.

Alex Beard also won the 500 free in 5:43.53 and Debban had the fastest time in the 50 free, finishing in 27.68.

Alex Beard won two more events on Thursday, Jan. 4 against McMinnville. She took first in the 100 breaststroke in 1:16.65 and the 200 IM in 2:25.24.

Hooper again led the boys, winning the 200 IM in 2:13.16 and the 100 free in 54.23.

McMinnville swept the meet as a team with the boys winning 119-51 and the girls outscoring McNary 113-57.
